Goal of the MC
To demonstrate a process to undertake an accurate estimate of the energy consumption in a small municipal area – usually smaller than central governments would usually produce data for. This process creates greater awareness and understanding of energy use and systems. It produces figures for electricity, gas, road fuels and other fuels (wood, LPG, oil ) including kWh, cost and carbon emissions.
-
Targetted Group
This MC is aimed at energy organisations/ECCOs so that they can develop their own auditing process using the data that is available in their country. This process is then replicable to work with numerous local community groups. Once a process is developed, the auditing excercise itself is aimed at community groups with an interest in developing energy saving/production projects. However, the data could also be valuable for local municipal authorities for developing policies and projects. Any sector of society (farmers, businesses etc) could also use the information to help plan energy use changes and understand how their contribution fits into wider local efforts to reduce carbon emissions and energy spend.
-
Previous Requirements
Developing the audit process requires basic understanding of: - Energy use data produced by each country’s government - Geographic scales used in datasets - Some basic mathematics and spreadsheet use - Basic understanding of energy and fuel types - Local knowledge of which fuels may have greater use in a local area. The audits themselves are intended as a first introduction to energy systems and are aimed at participants with very little knowledge of energy.

Program
1. Provide an introduction an overview of the energy audits
2. Provide some examples of how the audits have been used in Wales.
3. Outline the process and data used in Wales.
4. Outline the geographic scales used in the UK for statistical analysis – compare to what data is available in the particpants country.
5. Determine population and household data available in participants country
6. Determine which energy/fuel types have data available in participants country
7. Outline the energy datasets available in the UK for the geographic areas – compare to what data is available in the participants country.
8. Discuss and confirm which geographic scale and energy data is best to use.
9. Determine process to make a local estimate for any data sets only provided at a regional
